The NSW by-election for the state seat of Upper Hunter was yet another warning that Federal Labor will stay in the doldrums as long its climate-action policy opposes coal mining.

Labor was not going to win the seat, which it hasn’t held in a hundred years. However, the 7 per cent fall in Labor’s vote to 21.2 per cent was the third consecutive decline in the Hunter region over the last three state and federal elections.
