Glancing at the front page of The Australian newspaper website recently, I was startled to note the number of headlines containing the promise of ‘back to normal’. We see this phrase in nearly all media outlets these days.
‘If we just get X number of people vaccinated, we will be back to normal’; ‘Sticking to lockdowns will lead us back to normal in the long run’; ‘The new normal: we’ll all work from home from now on.’
