The Long Dark March Through Marriage and the Family*

The first wave of feminism was based on equal voting rights for women. It began about the middle of the 19th century and probably ended before World War II. Women were entitled to vote in New Zealand in 1893, in the United States in 1919, in Britain in 1918 (those over 30 years) and 1928 (those over 21 years) and in our Commonwealth from 1902. Some Australian states (South Australia and Western Australia) allowed women to vote before 1900.
