Looking back for the purposes of going forward*

For those Australians hoping for forward-looking, enlightened government economic programs to take us beyond covid19, the signs are not promising.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison, and it would seem most of his cabinet, are looking backwards for inspiration as they struggle to develop policies for how economic Australia might look a year or two from now. Worse still, the Labor opposition seems to be pretty much on the same track.

Indeed, the political class seems tied to cur…
