The Victorian Upper House voted in the early hours of September 2 to allow an extension of the period for which a state of emergency in Victoria can be declared, and emergency powers exercised.
Despite the number of covid19 infections in Victoria declining, Premier Daniel Andrews sought to extend the period from six months maximum to 18 months maximum. Taking into account the six months already served, this would have given him another 12 months extension, up to September 2021.
