U.S. Supreme Court’s word games: Decides on extended meaning of ‘sex’*

In a landmark ruling, the United States Supreme Court has decided that the 1964 Civil Rights Act (Title VII) prohibition on discriminating against a person in employment because of “sex” extends to homosexuality and transgender identity.

Three cases before the Court were heard jointly and concerned employees who were dismissed because of their homosexuality or transgender status.
