I am shocked to the very core of my privileged, white personhood. I have read in Vox magazine (an organ best read while intoxicated, asleep, or preferably both) that enjoying Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony is an act of intense bigotry, because of all “the wealthy white men who embraced Beethoven and turned his symphony into a symbol of their superiority and importance”.
This writer, who unfortunately missed out on the “wealthy” bit, had fondly imagined…
