Cardinal Pell’s appeal heard in the High Court*

As News Weekly went to press, the High Court of Australia was hearing Cardinal George Pell’s appeal against his conviction on five charges of sexual abuse of two choirboys at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne, in the 1990s.

Cardinal Pell was convicted on the uncorroborated testimony of a single complainant whose testimony was contradicted, at numerous points, by others present at the cathedral at the time of the alleged offences.
