Political candidate preselection is a powerful, yet mysterious, process.

We see plenty of candidates, once they are endorsed. Their signs fill the roadside and their ads pop up on our feeds. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent on persuading the electorate to put them in Parliament, while political analysts hover over their every move saying words like, “swing” and “trust” and “preference flow”.
