The “worst in living memory” is a phrase the media has taken to using to describe the severity of recent damaging weather, be it drought, flood, storm or heatwave.
But, even with the best of intent, “living” memory is often inaccurate, particularly when it relates to recollections of events that may have occurred 70 or more years ago.
