After half a century, what can we say for Gough?*

In assessing the legacy of Gough Whitlam, much ink has been spilled over the Dismissal of November 11, 1975, when Governor-General Sir John Kerr sacked the Labor government. But what were the achievements of the Whitlam government, if any?

Labor took government on December 5, 1972. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary of this event. Labor had been out of power for 23 years. There was a tremendous pent-up desire to transform Australia.
