Calls to contribute to this year’s Fighting Fund are well underway. From everyone here on the staff and executive, we would like to thank everyone who has given and those who will do so.
The Movement, however, includes all of you, not just our staff or researchers, writers or organisers. Part of what makes The Movement unique is that it is a genuinely democratic organisation, built on subsidiarity and solidarity, responsibility and real engagement.
This is also why our Fighting Fund appeal is not just a one-month push but a longer and gentler encouragement. Our Movement is built on real people working in the real world, not just at their jobs but also building up their communities and civil society. The Movement is not built on ones and zeroes, social media, and engagement metrics. It is built on people coming together and working together for the Common Good.
Face to Face
This is why we still have a bias for print, for letters and in-person gatherings like our recent dinners at Bulleen, Wodonga, Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Brisbane, and upcoming dinners in Perth, Cairns, Ballarat, Townsville, Bendigo, Mackay and Geelong. We know our world is one of flesh and blood, and we know that is the case for all of you. So, we want not only to respect that, we want to honour it.
We privilege the chance to get together, to talk, the chance to hold this publication in your hands and read it without needing a device, computer, tablet or phone.
At the same time, we do not neglect the digital realm. For many, this space has become the primary way they consume information and interact outside of their community. The digital realm has its own etiquette and requirements.
Extending Networks
However, as the digital realm has grown, its requirements have shifted and the need for skilled practitioners has grown further. We are tremendously blessed with our IT team, but they have more and more to do than they have the time to accomplish it. One of our objectives with the money raised is to make sure our IT team has everything they need to do the job that they need to do, and the job you need them to do, to make your experience and ability to participate in our Movement easier and better.
The way we see it, the digital world is an extension of the physical one, not a replacement for it. Computer technology allows us to communicate more quickly with one another. It allows us to collaborate across the nation and around the world. It gives us access to more information and more ways to store and organise and present all the important information.
We want to make it easier for you to engage with this world and to do so for the Common Good. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
Thank you for helping us bring about the future reach of the National Civic Council.
